Obituary

James Leonard "Snake" Hayes, age 91 of Sparta, Tennessee passed from this life on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Leonard was born Monday, February 6, 1928, in Woodbury, TN, he was the son of the late Isaac Hayes and the late Dolly Saddler Hayes.

Leonard served in World War II in the U.S. Army.

Leonard is survived by his:
wife - Rowena Carter Hayes
sister - Virginia Bowles
step-daughter - Barbara Carter Lacy and husband Alvin
step-son - Ronnie Carter and wife Angie
many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his two sisters Geneva Hayes Gentry and Luclle Hayes Kennedy, two brothers Riley Wilber Hayes and Marshell Ollen Hayes, and step-son Elmore Carter Jr.

He was the sweetest man ❤️ One of my memories will be of him humming and trying to remember lyrics to songs. He loved to entertain his family when we came to Tennessee to visit. His music was a part of my life and now that his songs are on CDs it will be passed down to other generations. Rest in Heaven Leonard, you were loved by so many 🙏
